World Habitat Day today

World Habitat Day will be observed in the country today (Monday) like elsewhere across the world through holding various programmes to make the planet livable for all, report agencies.

Every year, the day is being observed on the first Monday of October.

In 1985, the United Nations at its General Assembly had decided to observe the day. The day has been observed since 1986. This year's theme of the day has been fixed as "Municipal solid waste management".

Ministry of Housing and Public Works has taken various programmes to mark the day. The programmes included colorful rallies, seminar, publication of supplementary and souvenir.

The main rally will be brought out from the Central Shaheed Minar at 7:00 am and it will end in front of the National Press Club after parading different thoroughfares.

Later, a discussion will be held at Osmani Memorial auditorium at 9:00 am.
