World-standard edn a must for new generation: Nahid

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid said on Sunday world-standard education is a must to build an efficient new generation in the country, reports BSS.
"Manpower is a great resource of our country . . . we aren't poor in term of merits as we have talented new generation," the minister made the comments while speaking at the inaugural session of the week-long book fair on the city's Uttara University campus.
Uttara University and Bangla Academy jointly organised the programme with Acting Director General (DG) of Bangla Academy Md Altaf Hossain in the chair while Dhaka University Professor Emeritus Dr Anisuzzaman was present as the special guest.
Referring to various developments in country's education sector Nahid said: "After country's Independence, there were only six universities but this number rose to 56 nowadays."
The present government has a plan to set up a university in each district across the country, he added.
Among others, Uttara University Vice Chancellor Prof M Azizur Rahman, Prof Shamsu-zzaman Khan, Pro-VC Prof Dr Yasmin Ara Lekha, Trustee Board Chairman Badrul Iqbal, Prof Fayez M Sirajul Haque, Treasurer Kazi Mohiuddin, Examination Controller Prof AKM Mojammel Haque and Prof Selina Sazzad were also present on the occasion.
