A writ petition has been filed with the High Court challenging the legality of the letter regarding the instruction to observe Mongol Shobhajatra in all the educational institutions on the occasion of Pahela Boishakh.

It sought suspension of the operation of the notification regarding the instructions for holding Mongol Shobhajatra in the educational institutions.

Supreme Court lawyer Azim Uddin Patwari on Thursday filed the petition on behalf of Khalid Jahan, a guardian of an eighth grader student of Monipur High School and College in Dhaka.

The petitioner prayed to the court to issue a rule asking the government to explain as to why the letter regarding the instruction to observe Mongol Shobhajatra in all the educational institutions on the occasion of Pahela Boishakh should not be declared illegal.

Education Secretary, Cultural Affairs Secretary, Director General of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) and others have been made respondents in the petition.
