A petition has been filed with the High Court Wednesday, for ensuring safe food across the country, reports bdnews24.com.
Legal Action Bangladesh in its writ petition said several laws are in place to ensure production, processing, and marketing of safe food, but the authorities concerned are neglectful in their implementation.
The petitioner sought a rule on why the food secretary should not be directed to form a special body in line with the Safe Food Act 2013.
It also pleaded for orders to have the secretary make an independent inquiry committee within seven days, while the rule was being considered.
The petition also urged the court to order formation of mobile courts in towns and cities during that time.
It has named as defendants the secretaries for home, commerce, food, health, industries and law.
The others mentioned are the MD of Bangladesh Standard Testing Institute (BSTI), IGP, DG of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) commissioner.
