'Wrong treatment' kills minor girl in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, June 30 (UNB): A minor girl died reportedly due to wrong treatment at a private hospital in the port city early Friday.
The deceased was identified as Raifa Khan (03), daughter of Rubel Khan, staff reporter of Bengali Daily Samakal.
On Thursday afternoon, the child was admitted to Max Hospital with severe cold-related problem, said the victim's father.
Doctors gave her antibiotics instantly, but later in the night her physical condition started to deteriorate, said her father.
Later, the duty doctor advised them to call Child Specialist Bidhan Barua who later also recommended the same drug which leads the poor girl to shuffle, he said.
As the victim started shivering, the on-duty doctor injected another drug and Rafia died, the victim's father alleged.
In the face of journalist's movement, police arrested three people including the on-duty doctor and a nurse.
However, they were released later in the night.
Meanwhile, a five-member probe committee headed by Chattogram Civil Surgeon was formed to investigate the incident, said Abul Kalam, officer-in-charge of Chawkbazar Police Station.
Legal steps will be taken based on the investigation report, he said.
