WTB organises daylong workshop

Wildlife Trust of Bangladesh (WTB) organised a day-long workshop on "Consultative Workshop on the Independent Assessment of the Programme of Work of the Convention on Biological Diversity in the Forested Regions of Bangladesh" at Cosmos Centre in the city Saturday, reports UNB.
The Global Forest Coalition (GFC) and the WTB have initiated an independent monitoring process to review the status of implementation of the Programme of Work (POW) of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in the forested regions of Bangladesh.
Keeping this in mind, WTB arranged the consultative workshop to help assess the extent to which various goals and objectives of POW and CBD have been implemented.
WTB Vice Chairman Prof. M Harunur Rashid inaugurated the workshop while its Chief Executive Prof. M Anwarul Islam welcomed the delegates.
Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) and researcher of WTB Sabir Bin Muzaffar conducted the workshop.
IUCN Bangladesh country representative Ainun Nishat, executive director of Arannayk Foundation Farid Uddin Ahmed, teachers from Zoology and Botany Departments of Dhaka, Chittagong and Jahangirnagar universities, and representatives of Wildlife and Nature Conservation Society of Bangladesh, Bangladesh POUSH, Bangladesh Bird Club, Bangladesh Biodiversity Research Group, DEBTEC, SEHD and RDC, among others, participated in the discussion.
The participants discussed various themes like conservation, sustainable use and benefit sharing, institutional and socioeconomic enabling environment, knowledge assessment and monitoring. They also came up with various recommendations to protect the forest bio-diversity of Bangladesh.
