Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have unearthed a Yaba manufacturing factory and arrested four individuals during a raid in Keraniganj on the outskirts of the capital.
The arrestees are Alamgir alias Ande (40), Ali Arman (36), Shahjahan (40) and Sonia (30).
Speaking at a press briefing at the RAB Media Centre in Karwan Bazar on Friday, RAB-10 Commander and Additional Deputy Inspector General Mohammad Asaduzzaman said the suspects were arrested during a raid in the Madhyachar South Baluchar area under Keraniganj Model Police Station around 10:00 pm on Thursday.
During the operation, RAB recovered 1,968 Yaba tablets with an estimated market value of over Tk 0.5 million (Tk 5,90,400), raw materials, five mobile phone sets and a weighing scale.
Mr Mohammad Asaduzzaman said Alamgir is an accused in three narcotics cases filed with Rampura, Kamrangirchar and Mohammadpur Police Stations in Dhaka.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the suspects had been manufacturing Yaba using locally sourced raw materials before distributing the tablets to various parts of the country, including the capital.
The arrestees were handed over to the concerned police station for legal action under the Narcotics Control Act.
