BARISAL, July 25 (UNB): A young man was forced to marry his fiancée on court premises here Monday.
Muhammad Kibria, son of Latif Khan of Samudayakati, married Nasrin Begum, daughter of Shahed Ali Sardar of Hastishunda village of Ujirpur Upazila, with the mediation of lawyers and the court.
Murina Begum, district coordinator of Bangladesh National Women's Lawyers Association (BNWLA), said Kibria developed physical relationship with Nasrin at the end of 2004, alluring her with a promise of marriage. Later Nasrin gave birth to a son on September 27, 2005.
Kibria later denied his relations with Nasrin and parenthood of the child. Due to social pressure Nasrin was forced to leave the area and took shelter at the centre of BNWLA.
In this connection, mother of Nasrin lodged a case with Ujirpur police station on October 28, 2005 under Women and Children Repression Prevention Act and the police arrested Kibria.
