GAIBANDHA, Oct 10 (UNB): A youth was slaughtered allegedly by the family members of his lover at Dharmapur village in Gobindaganj upazila Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Ujjal, son of Ataur Rahman of the village.
Jahidul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Gobindaganj thana, said Ujjal developed love affair with his neighbour Shumi, daughter of one Shahjahan Ali, an influential person of the area.
When the matter came to light, Shahjahan Ali along with his associates swooped on Ujjal and slaughtered him with a sharp weapon when he came out of his home in the afternoon.
Angered by the incident local people set fire to the house of Shahjahan Ali.
Sensing danger, Shahjahan Ali fled the area along with his family.
