Bangladesh reported zero Covid death and 144 new cases in the 24 hours until Saturday morning.
The country last reported zero Covid-linked death on August 7.
The daily test positivity rate dropped to 4.29 per cent from Friday's 4.75 per cent as 3,357 samples were tested.
To date, Covid related fatalities stood at 29,332 while the total number of caseload reached about 2,008,644.
The overall positivity rate now stands 13.69 while mortality rate remained static at 1.46 per cent. The recovery rate from the disease is now 97.12.
BSS reports from Manikganj, Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque said that the government has provided 300 million vaccines to the people free of cost.
"The government vaccinated the people free of cost by spending Tk 400.0 billion in this purpose from our own fund," he said while distributing food stuff, clothes and sanitizers among 500 jobless families due to Covid-19 pandemic at Garpara area here yesterday.
The Health Minister said the vaccination for 5-11 years children has started on Thursday last on a trial basis.
UNB adds: in July, the country reported 142 Covid-linked deaths and 31,422 cases, the highest monthly death toll and caseload since March this year.
Bangladesh registered its highest daily caseload of 16,230 on July 28 last year and daily fatalities of 264 on August 10 in the same year.
Although the current pandemic phase may be characterised by relatively low incidence and risk for hospitalisation and death, the Omicron variant remains highly transmissible.
