‘8-man team monitoring wage board ward implementation’

The eight-member team, formed to monitor the implementation of the 8th Wage Board Award announced for newspapers and news agencies, continues its work, Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu informed parliament Thursday, reports UNB.
He said the team has been constituted with representatives from journalists, workers, employees and newspaper owners to watch over the implementation of the wage board announced in 2013 for journalists.
Replying to a scripted question from Mustafa Lufullah MP (Satkhira-1), the minister also said a total of 24 national dailies are getting government advertisements as per the 8th Wage Board Award.
Of the 24 newspapers, 10 are English dailies while the rest 14 are Bengali dailies.
The English dailies are: The Daily Star, The News Today, The Bangladesh Today, The Financial Express, New Age, The Independent, Dhaka Tribune, The Daily Observer, daily sun and The New Nation.
The vernacular dailies are: Prothom Alo, Bangladesh Protidin, Ittefaq, Kaler Kantha, Amader Somoy, Jugantor, Janakantha, Inqilab, Manab Jamin, Bartoman, Banik Barta, Bhorer Pata, Amar Sangbad and Khabor.
Replying to a starred question from Muhibur Rahman Manik MP (Sunamganj-5), the Information Minister said a draft online media policy is now being scrutinised by a committee formed to formulate the draft policy.
As there is no online media policy, the Information Ministry has formed the committee headed by the Principal Information Officer (PIO).
