A youth was killed in a 'shootout' with police at Mirpur in the city early Monday, reports BSS.
He was wanted in two separate cases for torching vehicles.
The deceased was identified as Abdul Wadud (30), a resident of Tolarbagh in Mirpur. Two arson attack cases were filed against him with Mirpur thana on January 25 and 29 this year, police said.
"The gunfight took place around 1.15 am when police along with the arrested Wadud conducted a raid in front of Bangladesh House Building Research Institute at Mirpur to nab his accomplices Parvez and Rubel," Sarder Nizamul Haque, sub-inspector (SI) of Mirpur Model thana, told the news agency.
Sensing the presence of police, the cohorts of the youth hurled petrol and crude bombs at them forcing the law enforcers to fire back, triggering a gunfight, he said, adding that Wadud caught in line of fire while he was trying to flee the scene after getting down from the police vehicle and died on the spot.
