Addressing a seminar as chief guest, she said apart from the country's premier and the opposition leader, a good number of top positions are being held by women.

Economic Relations Division (ERD) of the Ministry of Finance and Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations (UN) jointly organised the function marking the International Women's Day 2015.

Senior ERD Secretary Mohammad Mejbahuddin chaired the event while BIDS (Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies) Research Director Rushidan Islam Rahman presented a keynote paper.

UN's woman representative Christine Hunter, sociologist Prof Dr Sadeka Halim and Joint Secretary Sultana Afroz, among others, spoke at the event.

The ERD secretary said gender equality became a crying need for sustainable development of the country. "Individual level commitment can largely help reduce the existing gap," the secretary noted.
