Bangladesh is expected to benefit from India's advancement in space as both the neighbouring countries have agreed at a recently held Foreign Ministers-level meeting in New Delhi to move forward on bilateral cooperation in two high technology areas-nuclear field and space, reports UNB.

During a recent visit to the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he wants the benefits of India's significant expertise in science and technology and space to reach other developing nations, especially member-nations of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), reports Indian media Monday.

Mr Modi also urged the ISRO to develop a satellite designed to serve all SAARC nations.

The joint statement on the third India-Bangladesh Joint Consultative Commission (JCC) meeting mentioned that both countries agreed to enhance cooperation in new areas, including nuclear science and technology, space, health, jute and textiles, renewable energy, maritime, fisheries, oceanography, meteorological, and other areas related to development of the blue economy of the region.

During their meeting in New Delhi, Foreign Ministers Sushma Swaraj and Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali noted with satisfaction that bilateral ties have become 'truly multifaceted' ones, and acknowledged that high-level visits can infuse dynamism and momentum into the relations.

In the last six years, the governments of both countries have flagged and signed the memorandum of understanding on approximately 51 issues, and committed to addressing them.

In recent times, the Asian space race has picked up momentum, with under-developed nations actively competing with each other to achieve scientific and technological advancements in space. Bangladesh is one such example.
