‘Tender floated for 3rd Shitalakhya bridge’

The tender for constructing the 1290-meter long third Shitalakhya bridge involving Tk 3.77 billion was floated Wednesday, reports UNB.
Communications Minister Obaidul Quader disclosed this at a meeting at the Secretariat on traffic jam and water logging problem due to the construction work of Moghbazar flyover.
The minister said the work on the bridge over the Shitalakhya river is likely to begin in January,2015 and end in 2018.
The Saudi government is providing Tk 2.77 billion in loan assistance for the project while the rest amount of Tk 1.0 billion will come form the national exchequer, he said.
Besides, the minister said, an eight-member committee headed by Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority(DTCA) chief Md Kaikobad Hossain has been formed to solve the problems of huge traffic jam and water logging in Moghbazar and adjoining areas due to the ongoing construction work on the Moghbazar flyover project.
"The committee will work for keeping roads at Satrasta, Moghbazar, Mouchak, Shantinagar and Kakrail fit for plying vehicles through renovation and maintenance works," he said.
"The committee will initially work targeting the ensuing Eid-ul-Azha and Durga Puja. It'll continue its work until the completion of Moghbazar flyover work," he added.
The other members of the committee are project director of Moghbazar-Mouchak flyover Najmul Hasan, joint secretary of the Communications Ministry, deputy secretary of LGRD Ministry, DMD of Water and Sewerage Authority (Wasa), joint commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, chief engineer of Dhaka North City Corporation and chief engineer of Dhaka South City Corporation.
