Ruling Awami League (AL) joint general secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif said on Saturday the BNP-Jamaat combine is the big impediment now for achieving economic emancipation, reports BSS.
"Those having no consciousness nor feeling for the country and ignorant of the nation's history have surfaced as the big impediment for Bangladesh's economic emancipation," he said. Mr Hanif said this while speaking as the chief guest at the publication ceremony of a book 'Shikarer Sandhane' (In search of roots) and reception accorded to some worthy citizens by Principal Shahjahan Foundation at the auditorium of the Shilpakala Academy in the city.
President of the organisation Shahjahan Alam Saju chaired the function also addressed, among others, by Food Minister Advocate Quamrul Islam, Dhaka University Vice-chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique, prominent cultural personality Dr Inamul Huq and the National Press Club president M Shafiqur Rahman.
Commenting that BNP could regain some sort of people's trust if it overhauled itself dropping Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman, Hanif said: "There is murmuring inside BNP that Khaleda Zia is a failed leader because she as the former prime minister and leader of the opposition was a failure. The party failed repeatedly due to her wrong decisions and she has appeared as a failed leader."
