BNP senior leader Gayeshwar Chandra Roy Sunday alleged that the government is trying to send a number of popular BNP leaders to jail in 'false cases' as it is planning to arrange a midterm election to appease foreign countries, reports UNB.
"Having failed to win support from foreign democratic countries for the government formed through the January-5 election, Awami League is now heading towards midterm polls to appease them. So, they're trying to send prospective BNP candidates to jail alongside splitting the 20-party alliance in a bid to fish in the troubled waters," he said.
Gayeshwar came up with the remarks while addressing a discussion arranged by Jatiyatabadi Krishak Dal at the Jatiya Press Club, marking the 7th 'jail release day' of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and senior vice chairman Tarique Rahman.
