0.25 million mosques in country: Minister

According to the latest survey conducted by the Islamic Foundation, there are 250,399 mosques in the country, State Minister for Religious Affairs Advocate Md Shahjahan Mian told in Parliament Tuesday, reports BSS.
Replying to separate scripted questions raised by treasury bench members Muhibur Rahman Manik and Nasimul Alam Chowdhury, the state minister said the government has a plan to collect the exact figure of the imams and muazzins through the Islamic Foundation.
He also informed the House that the government did not give allowances or honouraria for the imams of the mosques.
But, he said, training has been provided to 67,019 imams for making them self-reliant socio-economically aimed at involving them in development activities.
The state minister also said the government has allocated Tk 160 million after forming the Imam-Muazzin Kalyan Trust for providing development assistance to them.
