1,000 new policemen for city's traffic management

The government has approved 1,000 new posts at different levels of the police department to improve traffic management in the metropolis, reports BSS.
Home Minister Advocate Sahara Khatun said this in Parliament while replying to a question from female member Asma Jerin Jumu Wednesday.
The new manpower would discharge duties for traffic management in the city areas, she said adding that a parking policy is being finalised for Dhaka city.
The Home Minister said the traffic congestion in Dhaka City would largely be resolved after construction of the 10 km flyover from Jatrabari to Palashi and 26 km elevated expressway from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport to Kutubkhali on the Dhaka- Chittagong highway.
Replying to a question from Opposition Chief Whip Joynal Abdin Farroque, the minister said police officials are being given training on six issues so that they can efficiently maintain law and order in the changed scenario.
Police officials are being trained up for protection of VIPs, curbing cyber crime, ensuring police management, conducting high-risk operation course, carrying out crime scene investigation and making mobile tracking, she said.
Responding to a question from treasury bench member Sheikh Afil Uddin, the minister said the government has started revising the existing jail code. The work would be completed very soon, she said.
The Home Minister said the government has a plan to float marine, tourist and campus police. The process of floating the tourist police is going on, she said adding that the process of floating marine and campus police will begin soon.
She also said that the government is mulling re-organization of the higher administrative posts of the police force. Primary work in this regard has already been launched. But, it would take time for a final decision, she noted.
