The Jamaat-e-Islami-led 11-Party Alliance will hold a rally in the capital today (Tuesday), demanding justice for killings and enforced disappearances during the Awami League (AL) regime.
The rally is scheduled to begin at around 5:00 pm in Bijoynagar area.
Leaders of the alliance are expected to attend the event
The alliance will also hold rallies and bring out processions in all districts, demanding the trial of those responsible for the killings and enforced disappearances that occurred during the AL regime.
Jamaat Assistant Secretary General Hamidur Rahman Azad announced the programmes at a press briefing held at the party's central office in the capital's Moghbazar area on Monday.
Before the press briefing, a liaison committee meeting of the 11-Party Alliance was held at 10:00 am at Jamaat's central office.
"The culture of impunity still exists in the country. An attempt is underway to bring back fascism. The trial over the July mass killings has yet to be completed, as the process has been kept slow," said Hamidur Rahman Azad.
He said it is the govt's responsibility to foil any programme called by the Awami League, whose activities have been banned.
Earlier, Awami League activists announced that they would observe the party's founding anniversary on June 23 (today).
Hamidur Rahman Azad warned that if the govt fails to resist the re-emergence of fascism, the alliance, together with the people, will do so. "The slow pace of the trial process has paved the way for the re-emergence of fascism. Reports of tensions and attacks are emerging from different places. Leaders and activists of the ruling party attacked activists of the alliance whenever they stood up and raised their voices against wrongdoing."
He urged the people to speak out against all forms of atrocities, govt failures and the patronisation of fascism.
Chief Coordinator of National Citizen Party (NCP) Nasir Uddin Patwary, Senior Joint Secretary General of Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish Ataullah Amin, Acting Secretary General of Liberal Democratic Party ( LDP) Billal Miazi, Secretary General of Bangladesh Nezamee Islam Musa Bin Izhar and General Secretary of Jatiya Gonitantruk Party ( JAGPA) Iqbal Hossain and Joint General Secretary of AB Party Abdullah Al Mamun were present.
