Police have arrested at least 14 members of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) during a procession at Kuril Bishwa Road in the capital, reports bdnews24.com.

The arrests were made when they were demonstrating to demand the release of detained leaders and activists of the Awami League, which is under a ban, and its affiliated organisations.

The march started outside the Jamuna Feature Park mall around 7:00 am on Saturday.

Police dispersed the protesters when the procession reached the Kuril Bishwa Road.

Banani Police apprehended 10 to 12 people as they tried to flee on a microbus, said Bhatara Police chief Mazharul Islam.

However, Banani Police Sub-Inspector Jaane Alam said they arrested 14 people.
