The Awami League (AL)-led 14-party alliance will organise mass contact programme and rallies throughout the country on April 28, 29 and 30 to mobilise public support against the conspiracy of BNP-Jamaat alliance, reports BSS.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the central 14-party held at the political office of Awami League (AL) president Sheikh Hasina at Dhanmondi in the capital.
Emerging from the meeting, 14-party spokesman and AL presidium member Mohammad Nasim while briefing reporters said central leaders of the 14-party split into three teams will take part in the mass contact programme and address rallies throughout the country from April 28 to April 30 to mobilise public support in favour of the trial of the killers of 1971.
Besides, he said the central leaders of the 14-party will also try to create public opinion against the conspiracies being hatched by BNP and its major ally Jamaat.
Mohammad Nasim, also Health and Family Welfare Minister, said the recent remarks of BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and her eldest son Tarique Rahman claiming Ziaur Rahman as the first President of Bangladesh tantamount to sedition. He urged the government to take legal action against them for such a remark.
The 14-party spokesman alleged that Begum Zia in collusion with a local and foreign clique has been hatching a new conspiracy to install an undemocratic government in power.
"Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was the first President of Bangladesh that's the truth like that of the Sun and the Moon in the sky. They (Begum Zia and her son) have taken to the field resorting to falsehood. We, the 14-party strongly condemn their remarks. Those who have been resorting to such blatant lies will repeatedly be condemned," he said adding that their remarks had hurt the whole nation.
Mohammad Nasim said the defeated forces of 1971 have been hatching a new conspiracy at a time when the national anthem was rendered by lakhs of people on the Independence Day on March 26. "At a time when we are securing forward march of the country's democratic system, a new conspiracy is being hatched to ruin the system," the senior AL leader added.
Pointing at BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, the 14-party spokesman said, "Along with Jamaat you had played many games and it's time for you to keep calm. Behave democratically and we will also behave with you democratically."
AL joint general secretaries Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif, Advocate Jahangir Kabir Nanak and Dr Dipu Moni, organising secretaries Ahmed Hossain and Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, Samyabadi Dal general secretary Dilip Barua, Workers' Party general secretary Anisur Rahman Mallick, Ganatantri Party general secretary Nurur Rahman Selim, Communist Kendro convener Dr Wazedul Islam Khan, NAP leader Ismail Hossain and AL information and research affairs secretary Advocate Afzal Hossain and central working committee member Sunjit Roy Nandi were present, among others.
