Wealth statements of all ministers and members of parliament (MPs) will have to be submitted within a 15-day limit, finance minister AMA Muhith said Sunday. He said a letter in this connection has already been drafted in which ministers and MPs will be asked to submit their wealth statements within 15 days. The minister said this on the sidelines of the consultative meeting on Asia 2050 Study organised by Asian Development Bank (ADB) at a city hotel. He added he was going to sign the draft letter in the afternoon on the day. "It is not really a problem for them to submit the statements. It is same as before. Only two points have been added," he told the media adding that ministers and MPs would be required to add the income tax of 2009 and declare that if their children or wives have any business with the government. Mr Muhith said the Cabinet Division would notify those not complying with submission of wealth statements by September. He said the statements would not be published, but the people would be able to see those if they want to. "Anyone may seek the information without using the Right to Information Act," the minister said. The minister added that he had talked to the Speaker requesting him to make the submission of wealth statements by Awami League MPs compulsory. "We will have to see whether others do the same," he said.
