17 BNP men jailed in sabotage case

A Dhaka court has sentenced 17 leaders and activists of BNP to two years and a half in jail in a case lodged for carrying out subversive activities in the city's Uttarkhan area in 2018, reports BSS.
The convicts are Sarkar Rafikul Islam Mukul, Ahsan Habib Mollah, Rustom Ali, Shariful Alam, Raihanul Based, Istiyak Based, Anwar Hossain Sarkar, Arif Uddin Enamul, Md Ruhul Amin, Mojibur Rahman, Md Mostafa, Nasimul Islam Nasim, Shamim, Asadul Islam, Sabbir Sarkar, Esmail Hossain and Zakir.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jasim pronounced the judgment on Monday.
According to the case documents, at around 9.30 pm on September 3, 2018, the convicts were holding a secret meeting beside Teromukh Ghat Bridge area. As police reached the scene, the convicts hurled brickbats and crude bombs at them and fled the area. Two policemen got injured in the attack.
Police later filed the case with Uttarkhan thana. Charge-sheet was filed in the case on June 30, 2019. A total of six witnesses testified in the case on different hearing dates.
