175 more politically motivated cases to be withdrawn

The government-constituted high-powered committee suggested the authorities concerned Thursday for withdrawal of 175 cases more considering those as politically motivated, reports BSS.
With Thursday's recommendations, the committee so far suggested withdrawal of 1,348 such cases filed by the past four-party alliance and caretaker government with political motives and intention.
Chaired by State Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Advocate Kamrul Islam, the 10th meeting of the committee was held at the Home Ministry.
Home Secretary Md Abdus Sobhan Sikder and Additional Secretary Iqbal Khan Chowdhury and other committee members attended the meeting.
Emerging from the meeting, the state minister told the reporters that a total of 675 cases were produced before the committee. Of those, 24 cases were filed by the Anti-corruption Commission (ACC) and the rest 651 were filed under the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC).
Out of 24, 16 cases filed by the ACC were recommended for withdrawal from the concerned courts, one was rejected and the rest seven cases were sent back for further review.
Of the 24 cases, nine were filed against Mayor of Chittagong City Corporation ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury, one was against Jatiya Party Secretary General ABM Ruhul Amin Hawlader MP and another one was against the former chairman of Proshika Kazi Faruk Ahmed.
