18 additional HC judges take oath as permanent

Eighteen additional judges of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court (SC) took oath as permanent judges of the division on Saturday through video conference.

Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain administered the oath virtually at 3:00 pm, said a statement issued by Md Saifur Rahman, a special officer of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court and also spokesman of the SC.

The 18 judges are-- Justice Md Abu Ahmed Jamadar, Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman, Justice Fatema Najib, Justice Md Kamrul Hossain Molla, Justice SM Quddus Jaman, Justice Md Atoar Rahman, Justice SM Abdul Mobin, Justice Khizir Hayat, Justice Shashangka Shekhor Sarkar, Justice Mohammad Ali, Justice Mohiuddin Shamim, Justice Md Riaz Uddin Khan, Justice Md Khairul Alam, Justice SM Moniruzzaman, Justice Ahmed Sohel, Justice Sardar Md Rashed Jahangir, Justice Khondaker Diliruzzaman, and Justice KM Hafizul Alam.

The judges of the Appellate and High Court divisions also joined in the oath taking ceremony via video conference, said Saifur Rahman.

Earlier on May 29, President Md Abdul Hamid confirmed the service of 18 additional judges of the High Court Division who were appointed two years ago.

The law ministry on Friday issued a gazette notification to this effect saying that the president regularized the appointment of the High Court judges in consultation with the chief justice as per the Article 95 of the Constitution of the Republic.

The confirmation will come into effect from the date of taking oath by the judges, according to the gazette notification.
