The High Court on Wednesday granted anticipatory bail to 18 leaders and activists of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and its associate bodies, including Dhaka City South Unit convener Abdus Salam.
They have been asked to surrender to the trial court concerned after one month.
The High Court bench of Justice Md Habibul Gani and Justice SM Mozibur Rahman passed the orders after hearing five separate petitions filed in this regard.
Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kazal appeared in the court hearing on behalf of the BNP leaders.
Lawyers Nure Alam Siddique, Mohammad Rokanuzzaman Suja, Al Amin and Ershad Hossain Rashed also represented the petitioners.
The police arrested at least 30 activists of BNP and its associate bodies, including Jatiyatabadi Juba Dal, on February 06 after a police-Chhatra Dal clash at Nayapaltan in the capital.
Police filed a case against more than 450 leaders and activists of the BNP and its associate bodies over the clash the following day.
The bail-seekers were also named in the case.
Chhatra Dal central president Fazlur Rahman Khokon and general secretary Iqbal Hossain Shaymol, and Juba Dal central president Saiful Islam Nirob and general secretary Sultan Salahuddin Tuku, among others, secured bail.
