196 aspirants contest in 13 UZs polls

The Election Commission (EC) said Sunday that 196 candidates will contest in the election of 13 upazila parishads on May 19, reports UNB.

The final list was announced a day after the deadline for quitting the race expired.

Among the candidates 69 will fight for the chairman posts, 75 for vice chairman posts, and 52 for vice chairman posts exclusively reserved for women, according to information the Election Commission Secretariat received from the returning officers.

A total of 244 aspirants submitted nomination papers for 39 posts of the 13 upazilas in nine districts.
