2 JCD men held over bomb attack on Kamran\\\'s vehicle

SYLHET, Jan 3 (UNB): Police arrested two activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) Saturday in connection with a crude bomb attack on the vehicle of former Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) mayor and city Awami League (AL) president Badar Uddin Ahmed Kamran at Pathantula here Friday afternoon.
The arrestees were identified as Akmal Khan and Abdul Mamin.
Akhter Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Jalalabad Police Station, confirmed the arrest.
Benu Chandra Deb, sub-inspector (SI) of the police station, filed a case in this connection Friday night.
A crude bomb was hurled targeting the vehicle of the former SCC mayor at Pathantula here Friday afternoon.
However, he escaped the attack unhurt as the bomb missed his vehicle narrowly and exploded on the street instead.
Mr Kamran said a group of several youths threw the bomb at his vehicle at Pathantula Point on his way to Ambarkhana after attending a marriage ceremony at a community centre.
The OC said the JCD activists brought out a procession at Pathantula demanding the withdrawal of the cases filed against senior BNP leaders.
"The crude bomb was blasted from the JCD rally," the OC added.

Meanwhile, police arrested the city unit vice-president of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) from Khashdabir area in the city early Saturaday.
The arrestee was identified as Mahfuzul Karim Jehin, vice-president of the city unit of JCD, student wing of BNP.
Gausul Azam, OC of Bimanbandar Police Station, said on secret information, a team of police conducted a drive in the area and arrested Jehin in the dead of night.
