BRAHMANBARIA, Aug 12 (bdnews24.com): Around 200 persons were injured Wednesday during seven hours of violence between rival factions of BNP after a dispute between local politicians under Sarail Upazila spiralled out of control, police said.
"A dispute between BNP local unit's president Abdur Rahman and general secretary Anwar Hossain over votes cast in the last Upazila polls caused the riot," Subhash Chandra Bashu, officer-in-charge of Sarail Police Station, told the news agency.
The clashes spread over Syedtula and Kuttaparah villages, said Bashu.
He said the violence started at 11:00 am and continued unabated until 6:00 pm, with followers of both sides using various home-made weapons.
