3 cases filed over recovery of arms in Ctg

CHITTAGONG, Mar 19 (BSS): Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) on Wednesday night filed three cases against 70 leaders and activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS) in connection with recovery of huge arms and explosives from four hostels of two government colleges in the city.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Abdul Monaf of the Detective Branch (DB) of CMP filed a case under Arms Act with city's Chawkbazar police station against 21 ICS leaders and activists, including president and secretary of Chittagong College unit.
Besides, SI Rasel Mia filed two more cases with the same police station against 48 ICS leaders and activists under arms and explosives acts.
Nine ICS leaders and activists were named in the second case filed under Arms Act while the third case was filed against nine named and 30 unnamed activists under Explosives Act, police said.
SM Tanvir Arafat, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of DB, said 35 among the 82 detained were shown arrested in the three cases while the rest were released upon bonds.
A joint team of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), DB and police on secret information conducted raids on ICS-dominated Suhrawardy and Sher-e-Bangla hostels of Chittagong College and two other dormitories of Mohsin College early Wednesday and detained 82 students with huge firearms and explosives.
