3 CWASA engineers nabbed on corruption charges

CHITTAGONG, Sept 26 (UNB): Three engineers of Chittagong WASA were arrested today (Wednesday) from its head office in a corruption case.
Police said a joint team of RAB and Anti-corruption Commission (ACC) officials, led by Major Mohammad Sharif, raided the WASA office at about 10:40am, rummaged through various files and arrested its Chief Engineer Mohammad Shafiqul Islam and assistant engineers Mohammad Shafiullah and Abdul Kuddus.
Police said they were arrested in a corruption case filed against them with Kotwali police station in 2004.
The arrested were produced before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court and then sent to jail as the court rejected their bail prayers.
As lawyers of the defendants sought division for them in the jail, the court ordered the jail authorities to take measures as per the Jail Code.
