30 hurt in AL factional clash in Pabna

PABNA, Sept 8: At least 30 activists of Pabna Awami League (AL) were injured in a factional clash over lease of Shanikdia haat in Pabna Sadar upazila on Monday night.

Among the wounded, ten were bullet-hit.

The attackers also ransacked 5 houses and 4 shops.  

Eyewitness said Aslam Hossain, general secretary of Hemayetpur union unit of Awami League, had long been at loggerheads with Panna Sarkar, a ward unit president of AL, over taking control of Shanikdia haat.

Quoting locals as saying, Ahsanul Haque, officer-in-charge (OC) of Pabna thana, said as a sequel to the previous enmity, the supporters of Aslam Hossain attacked Panna's men with firearms and sharp weapons while they were chatting at a tea stall in the market, leaving at least 30 people, including two women, injured.

The injured were admitted to the Pabna Medical College Hospital in critical condition

Being informed, a team of police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
