31 to vie for 14 posts in SC Bar polls

A total of 31 candidates will vie for 14 posts in the upcoming polls of Supreme Court (SC) Bar Association scheduled to be held on March 15 and 16, reports BSS.

"Thirty-five candidates have submitted their nomination papers to contest the poll. But four of them withdrew their nominations yesterday (Sunday)," Nimesh Chandra Das, superintendent of the association, told the news agency.

A total of 4,362 members will cast their ballots to elect their leaders for 2015-16.

The election schedule was announced on February 16. The candidates from pro-Awami League White Panel and Pro-BNP Blue Panel will vie for a total of 14 posts.

Advocate Yusuf Hossain Humayun and Advocate Momtaz Uddin Mehedi are contesting from White Panel while Advocate Khandaker Mahbub Hossain and Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon are contesting from Blue Panel for the posts of President and the General Secretary respectively.
