34 Jamaat-Shibir men held in Gazipur

GAZIPUR, June 12 (UNB): Police in a drive arrested 34 Jamaat-Shibir men from a restaurant at Shibari intersection in the city on Thursday night.

Tipped off, a team of police raided Euro Bangla restaurant and arrested them while they were holding a meeting around 8:00 pm, said Delwar Hossain, additional superintendent of police, Gazipur.

Police also recovered 25 petrol bombs from their possession.

Gazipur city unit Jamaat secretary Khairul Hasan was among the arrestees.

Police said among the arrestees were leaders and activists of 19 district units of Jamaat-Shibir, including Jamalpur, Sirajganj and Tangail, and most of them were wanted in several cases filed for arson attack and vandalism.

Police conducted the drive following secret information that a group of Jamaat-Shibir men were holding a secret meeting at the restaurant for carrying out sabotage acts ahead of the judgment day of war crimes convict Jamaat leader Ali Ahsan Muhammad Mujahid.
