Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina's Information and Communication Technology (ICT) adviser Sajeeb Wazed Joy said on Saturday the 4G (fourth generation) telecommunications technology will be implemented within the tenure of the present government, reports UNB.
"We had implemented the 3G in our previous term. In the present tenure, we'll implement the 4G," he said.
Joy, the only son of the PM, said this while addressing a views-exchange meeting on Digital Bangladesh jointly organised by ICT division and Access to Information (A2i) of PM's office held at Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) Auditorium in the city.
Entrepreneurs of Union Information Service Centre (UISC), BCC assistant programmers, freelancers and field-level government officials took part in the programme.
Joy said, "If any mobile operator wants, it can introduce 4G now by taking permission. WiMax service providers are now being given permissions for the 4G."
He went on saying, "Only five and a half years ago Digital Bangladesh was a dream. Some people four years ago had teased us about Digital Bangladesh. Today, nobody taunts us as everyone is benefited from it."
Mentioning that 70 types of government services are being delivered though UISC, Joy said there is a plan to digitise all government services. Joy expressed the hope that the fiber optic cable network will reach the union level within five years.
He said the government has a plan to increase the number of Union Information Centre so that people can avail themselves of the service in an easier way.
About the financing of freelancers to turn them into entrepreneurs, Joy said, "We're discussing the issues with different banks. I'll talk to the Bangladesh Bank Governor how to finance them as the freelancers have no asset to keep as collateral."
In reply to a question whether Bangladesh will have any internationally reputed brand like Google and Facebook, Joy said, "I also want next Google, Facebook to emerge from Bangladesh. We must do it."
4G within this govt\\\'s tenure, says Joy
