5 JCD men get 10 years RI each in explosives case

CHITTAGONG, June 24 (UNB): A court here Sunday sentenced five Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) activists to 10 years rigorous imprisonment (RI) each for unauthorised possession of bombs and other explosives.
Of the convicts, only Mintu Chowdhury was present on the dock while four others-M Mohiuddin, Mizanur Rahman, M Saifuddin and Asif-ud Doula-were tried in absentia as they went into hiding after securing bail from the High Court in mid-2005.
First Additional Metropo-litan Sessions Judge M Akhter Hossain delivered the verdict after examining the records and witnesses.
According to the prosecution case, a police team, led by the then Inspector Miah Kutubur Rahman, of the Detective Branch (DB) of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) on July 28, 2004 raided an under-construction building at Foyez colony in Sabujbag residential area under Bakolia police station and recovered huge explosives.
