RAJSHAHI, Feb 23 (UNB): Fifty people were injured in a clash between students of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) and a school and college situated on the RUET campus Wednesday.
The injured students are from Agrani School and College (ASC) and RUET.
Campus sources said, an altercation ensued between ASC student Makbul Hossain and RUET student Tarek over smoking.
Makbul was publicly puffing cigarette at the altar of RUET Saheed Minar during annual prize giving ceremony of ASC at noon.
RUET student Tarek obstructed, triggering a scuffle.
At one stage students of both institutes engaged in a clash on the campus which left 50 injured on both sides.
The dais of ASC and a few rooms, including the main room of ASC office were set on fire during the clash which also halted traffic on Rajshahi-Natore Highway for three hours as warring students blocked highway putting barricade on road.
On information, police rushed in and quelled the situation.
