51 Shibir men held in Dhaka, Ctg

Some 41 Shibir leaders and activists were arrested allegedly while holding a clandestine meeting at a restaurant in the city's Farmgate area on Friday afternoon, reports UNB.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of police from Tejgaon thana conducted a raid on the rooftop of 'Hotel Givency' at Babul Tower near Farmgate bus stand around 5:30 pm and arrested the Shibir cadres.

Contacted, Deputy Commissioner (Tejgaon Division) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Biplab Kumar Sarker confirmed this, saying the arrested Shibir men were holding a secret meeting.

They were taken to Tejgaon thana, he said.

Another BSS report adds: Chittagong district police in a drive arrested 10 leaders and activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir from Gobindorkill area under Patiya Pourshava early on Friday.

Police recovered a large number of anti-state posters, banners from their possession.

Shamim Hossain, assistant superintendent of police, Patiya circle, said police arrested them from a residence at Gobindorkill area under Patiya Pourshava while they gathered there to hold a meeting. Police recovered some jehadi books, anti-state leaflets and banners from their possession, he added.
