5,500 law enforcers to be deployed in NCC polls

A total of 5,500 members of law enforcement agencies will be deployed during the Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) election to be held on October 30.
Election Commissioner Brig Gen (Retd) M Sakhawat Hossain said this, while talking to journalists after a meeting on law and order for the NCC polls at the EC Secretariat in the city Monday, reports BSS.
Chaired by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Dr ATM Shamsul Huda, the meeting was attended, among others, by EC commissioners Suhul Hossain and Brig Gen (Retd) M Sakhawat Hossain, Inspector General of Police (IGP) and RAB Director General along with other senior officials of different organisations.
"As many as 4,000 extra forces will carry out their duties with 1,500 local forces," Brig Gen Hossain said.
He said law enforcers would be deployed for five days in the NCC polls.
Referring to 403,406 voters in the city corporation, he said one law enforcer will carry out his duty against 75 voters.
Returning Officer Lutfar Rahman said the meeting decided to deploy 24 law enforcement personnel at each centre for ensuring security.
The EC sources said votes will be cast through electronic voting machines at 58 centres under 27 wards.
