Six leaders and activists of the Bangladesh Krishak Sramik Janata League (BKSJL), led by Abdul Kader Siddiqui, have been arrested from city's Motijheel area where the party was staging a sit-in demanding an end to the current political unrest, reports bdnews24.com.
Party General Secretary Habibur Rahman Talukder said Mojijheel police had detained them around 1:30am on Friday.
BKSJL President Siddiqui began the sit-in on January 28 in front of the party office demanding dialogue between Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia to resolve the current political crisis.
The detainees include party central committee member Farid Ahmed, student front Joint Convener Kawser Hasan Khan, Abdur Razaak and Alamgir.
Motijheel Police Station officer in charge (OC) BM Forman Ali confirmed bdnews24.com of the arrest of the six BKSJL members.
"They were detained because of their suspicious movement in Motijheel commercial area at the dead of night," he said.
