6 more sent to jail over house sale scam

A Dhaka court Thursday sent another six persons, accused of selling 18 government houses without tender, to jail soon after they had surrendered, reports bdnews24.com.
Judge Md Azizul Haque ordered them into jail. The lawyers of the accused appealed for division to the accused, and the judge ordered jail authorities to take action as per the jail code.
Former RAJUK official Mir Mosharraf Hossain, now at the establishment ministry, director of Rajuk's Purbachal project Abdus Sadek, former chief engineer of Rajuk Emdadul Islam, former director of Uttara residential project Kazi Reazul Monir, superintending engineer of public works maintenance circle Ziauddin Ahmed and former superintending engineer of Rajuk Mohammad Ali surrendered to the court.
Earlier on October 1, two secretaries, one former secretary and a RAJUK official surrendered and the court sent them to jail.
Besides, three other accused in the case, former housing and public works minister Mirza Abbas, former director (finance) of RAJUK Humayun Khan and Mehedi Hasan are already in jail. Of the total 25 accused in the case, 13 are now in jail.
Police confiscated movable property of nine others, including former commerce minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury.
However, hardly any goods of value were seized. In one house, only two bags of clothes were found.
Assistant director of the Anti-corruption Commission Md Shafiul Alam filed the case with Motijheel Police Station on March 29.
The case alleged that some present and former officials of RAJUK, in collusion with Mirza Abbas, had sold the 18 government houses at Dhanmondi, Gulshan, Banani and New Eskaton through a false auction.
