61 to vie for 14 posts in Bar Council polls

As many as 61 candidates are going to contest for 14 posts in the upcoming polls of Bangladesh Bar Council scheduled to be held on May 20, reports BSS.
Bangladesh Bar Council is a statutory autonomous body of the Government constituted under the Bangladesh Legal Practitioners and Bar Council Order, 1972. It consists of 15 members of whom the Attorney General for Bangladesh is one and is the ex-officio Chairman. Others are elected by advocates for a term of three years. Among them, seven are from general seats and seven from seven zonal or group seats.
In line with the election schedule, the voter list was published on April 9. A total of 48,465 members of the council are eligible to cast their votes. Of the total 14 member posts, seven will be elected through the voting of general members throughout the country and the rest will be elected from the local members of seven zonal councils.
A total of 32 candidates are vying for the seven posts of general members, while 29 are contesting for the seven posts of zonal members.
