So far 62 important prisoners, arrested during the anti-graft drive, have been given division considering their social status under the jail code, Inspector General (Prisons) Zakir Hassan said Monday, reports UNB.
These important prisoners include former ministers, lawmakers, bureaucrats and businessmen. Talking to the journalists, the IG (Prisons) said many of these prisoners are sick with various health complications and the jail authorities are taking care of them.
He said most of the prisoners were passing their time by reading books, including religious books.
DIG (Prisons) Shamsul Haider Siddiqui said that some 150-200 senior politicians, businessmen and bureaucrats were rounded up since the caretaker government waged war on corruption from January last.
He said 60 of them have been given division.
