65 sued over CU student killing, VC confined

CHITTAGONG, Dec 15 (BSS) : Police on Sunday night sued 65 leaders and activists of the Bangladesh Chhatra League of the Chittagong University (CU) unit on charge of killing BCL activist Tapash Paul.
Habibur Rahman, sub-inspector of Hathazari Police Station, lodged the case under Arms Act and illegal possession of firearms and sharp weapons.
Five BCL leaders and activists, including Ashrafuzzaman Asha, cultural secretary of the dissolved BCL unit of CU, were named in the case while 60 anonymous others were included in the case, said Mohammad Ismail, Officer-in-charge (OC) of Hathazari Police Station.
The case was filed after police recovered one shotgun, five cartridges and 30 other sharp weapons from different rooms of Shah Amanat Hall of the university on Sunday night.
UNB adds: A faction of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) confined Monday Chittagong University (CU) vice-chancellor Prof M Anwarul Azim Arif to his office demanding the arrest of those involved in the killing of their fellow Taposh Sarker.
Mohammad Ismail, officer-in-charge (OC) of Hathazari thana, said the BCL men, under the banner of CFC, laid siege to the administrative building after putting all gates under lock and key around 2:00 pm.
