68 AL men sent to jail in Sherpur

SHERPUR, Jan 18 (UNB): A court here sent 68 local leaders and activists of Awami League (AL) and associate bodies to jail Sunday in two cases filed for vandalising the party office and attacking rival factions at Jhenaigati Upazila.

Chief Judicial Magistrate Shariful Islam passed the order when they surrendered before his court seeking bail.

The accused include former general secretary of Jhenaigati Upazila unit of AL Golam Mostafa and its former vice-president Mofazzal Hossain Chand.

Earlier on November 28 last, a faction of the local AL vandalised the upazila unit party office and attacked seven leaders and activists from the other faction over forming grass-roots level committees.
