The Anti-corruption Commission (ACC) Sunday sent notices to seven agencies seeking wealth information of the former state minister for water resources Md Mahbubur Rahman as part of the investigation into his alleged illegal wealth.
The notices were sent requesting the agencies to reply to the ACC about the total wealth of the former state minister by Sunday next, ACC officials said.
The seven agencies included the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK), Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA), Real Estate & Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB), Register of Dhaka District, Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), and General Post Office (GPO).
ACC sources said the anti-graft watchdog asked the RAJUK and REHAB to give information about plot, flats of the former minister, the DSCC for info about his business organisation, the BRTA for info about car, the Register of Dhaka District for info about land, the DSE for info about business in share market, and the GPO for info about bond.
The Commission Deputy Director Khairul Huda is investigating the case of the former state minister. The ACC team visited his electoral seat in Patuakhali last week for collecting information about his wealth information.
Earlier, the ACC started investigation into the alleged illegal wealth of the seven ministers and members of parliament (MPs). They were former health minister AFM Ruhal Haq, former state minister for housing and public works Abdul Mannan Khan, former state minister for water resources Mahbubur Rahman, lawmaker of Cox's Bazar-4 Abdur Rahman Bodi, MP of Rajshahi-4 Engineer Enamul Haq, Aslamul Haque of Dhaka-14 and Abdul Zabbar of Satkhira.
On January 22, the ACC began probe against the suspects and said gradually it would investigate into the wealth of other ruling coalition ministers and MPs.
Media reports on huge discrepancies between wealth statements of the ministers and MPs which they submitted to the Election Commission (EC) ahead of the 10th parliamentary elections and the statements they had provided prior to the 9th national polls in 2008 created furore among the people.
