7 people, including women, injured in AL-BNP clash

JHALAKATI, Aug 12 (UNB): Seven people, including women, were injured in a clash between two groups of Awami League (AL) and BNP supporters while watching news on TV at Phulhar village in Rajapur Upazila Saturday morning.
Local people said an altercation took place between AL activist Mujibur Rahman and BNP activist Jakir Hawlader over the detention of AL President Sheikh Hasina while watching TV news at a shop early in the morning.
Later, a violent clash erupted between the supporters of Mujibur and Jakir at about 8am leaving seven people from both sides injured.
The injured were identified as Mujibur Rahman (40), his wife Kahinoor Begum (32), Rashid Hawlader (60) and his wife Shahida Begum (41), Jakir Hawlader (40), his Mother Khalekun Begum (60) and Nasir Hossain (30) of the village.
Of the injured AL activists were admitted to the Sadar Hospital while BNP activists to the Rajapur Health Complex. A tense situation was prevailing in the area.
