8 nomination papers submitted

Eight people submitted nomination papers to contest in the Narayanganj-5 by-election scheduled for June 26, assistant returning officer Tarifuzzaman said on Thursday, reports UNB.

Thursday was the last day of filing nomination papers.

The eight aspirants are late MP Nasim Osman's brother and BKMEA president Selim Osman (Jatiya Party), Santrash Nirmul Toki Mancha

president Rafiur Rabbi, Nagorik Oikya leader former Awami League (AL) MP SM Akram, Narayanganj city AL president Anwar Hossain, district Krishak Shramik Janata League president Shafiqul Islam, Abu Hamidur Rahman nominated by Bangladesh Nationalist Front (BNF) and Advocate Mamum Siraj Mazid.

Ruling AL officially did not field any candidate.

The nomination papers will be scrutinised on June 1, while the deadline for withdrawal of candidature will expire on June 9.

The seat fell vacant following the death of Jatiya Party MP Nasim Osman on April 30.
