KHULNA, Mar 19 (BSS): Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General and former lawmaker Mia Golam Parwar pointed to fallen Awami League saying a political party and a family had taken the entire nation hostage.
"Under their dictatorial regime, people's fundamental rights were stripped away.
Those who spoke out were subjected to murder, abduction, torture, and harassment. Religious scholars were executed or imprisoned and freedom of speech was suppressed," he said.
Parwar made the remarks at an iftar mahfil as the chief guest organised by Dumuria upazila unit of Jamaat-e-Islami on the Shaheed Smrity Women College premises here on Tuesday.
"But the fascist government was eventually forced to step down and the dictator prime minister fled the country in exchange for blood of over 2,000 students and protestors during the July Uprising," he said.
Calling the Media is the fourth pillar of the nation, he urged journalists to present true events to the countrymen with objective journalism.
Parwar warned that misinformation could push the country into deep crisis that the nation witnessed during the past autocratic regime.
